This is my first incense from Prabhuji’s Gifts. Vishuddha Chakra is part of their Chakra line (they have 3 others: Meditation, Devotion, and Harmony) and I chose it because the main notes listed are amber and oriental woods, two notes that I really enjoy.
Like many Indian incenses these sticks are hand rolled around a bamboo core. One of the problems with hand rolled incenses is that they can vary in thickness and the ratio of incense dough to bamboo stick can be off. If the incense dough is too thick it won’t burn properly and if it’s too thin the smell of the bamboo stick will come thru.
Unfortunately my package was mostly comprised of sticks that were too thin so the smell of the incense was compromised by the smell of burning bamboo.
The incense itself is rather woody and dry and doesn’t seem to have much oil. There is a touch of amber-y sweetness that wafts in and out. It’s quite pleasant at times (and I think fans of woody-dry incense would enjoy it) but the smell of the bamboo stick kept coming thru and spoiling things. What a shame.
Perhaps I just got a bad batch but I don’t think I’ll be exploring this line in the near future.
Prabhuji’s Gifts incense can be bought online at a number of retailers. Prices start around $3 for a pack of 10 sticks.
